Being a Habitat Homeowner has brought stability to my family. I am a single mother raising two beautiful boys and owning a Habitat for Humanity Home has brought stability and structure to my family. It was such a great experience being able to assist in building my own home with such wonderful Habitat for Humanity volunteers. I feel very fortunate to have this opportunity of home ownership and will feel forever grateful for Habitat for Humanity.
It’s hard to summarize what our Habitat home means to our family in just a few sentences. It means THE WORLD! I recall one particular conversation I had with my sister when I was going through a really tough time. I had to find a place to live with my three young girls, and was struggling to find something safe and affordable. I was feeling scared and hopeless. I remember saying to her “I don’t know how I’m ever going to get out of the situation that I’m in. I need something to seriously change the path for my family, and I don’t even know what that is.” It turns out that change is Mt Washington Valley Habitat for Humanity!
In todays’ world people like us most likely need a miracle to become homeowners. What was once the ultimate goal and stop of American life, homeownership, has become more and more out of reach for a large percentage of working class people. The Habitat Organization, was in our case and dozens of other cases, nothing short of our miracle. Words can’t express the feeling of coming home to a tine, barely sufficient place knowing your family deserves better but unable to find or afford it. The feeling of being unable to let your children play outside in their neighborhood because of the elements around. The Habitat Organization is a miracle in these respects, a savior of sorts, it you will.
